Andrew Charity – Music Director. Andrew Charity is a freelance conductor and pianist who specialises in opera, especially from a theatrical perspective. He was Musical Director for OperaUpClose’s version of La Boheme which won an Olivier Award, and has recently conducted The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, Fidelio, Tosca, La Boheme and St. Nicholas in various productions, mainly for New London Opera Players in London and on tour, and Woodhouse Opera. He is especially pleased to have worked for OperaMachine on all its opera productions to date – two versions of The Consul, and the more recent Finding Butterfly. Jointly with Stephen Tiller, he created the dramaturgy and libretto translations for the Butterfly piece. Andrew made his first visit to Japan in September 2013 as MD for OperaMachine’s performances at the sixth international Theatre Festivalal at The Bird Theatre, Shikano-cho, Tottori. Opera leaves him little time to pursue his interest in the theatre, art and connecting with friends; the last few years have seen him relinquishing prestigious teaching posts and the leadership of the Barnes Choir, with whom he celebrates their Sixtieth Anniversary Season before stepping down to concentrate on the expanding work of his opera companies.
