We went out with a camera and a microphone to try and capture ‘ordinary’ Londoners. The kind of people you might see sitting opposite you on the Tube or the bus. Every one of the people we approached and wanted to speak to at Ridley Road Market and Covent Garden on June 27th is here. They were all amusing, delightful and thoughtful, each in their own way. And a privilege to meet. But the picture they paint of opera is quite the reverse. But who cares? If judged by their efforts to change things – and the tangible results – ‘opera people’ themselves, least of all.
