Latana Phoung

Latana Phoung. Born in Paris to Algerian and Chinese parents Latana obtained two Master’s degrees in History of Art from Sorbonne University and in vocal training from the Guildhall School of Music in London. Following her course at GSMD she toured as the title role of Orpheus (Gluck) with the Opera Studio of Geneva. She performed since then the title role of Carmen, the Sorceress, Marcellina, Cherubino, Gianetta, Maddalena, Brigitte (Franz Curti) and Suzuki. As a child she was already grabbed by the fascinating world of storytelling, She managed pretty well to convince her Chinese grand-mother that she was able to read tales in French at 3 years old inventing new stories from the ones read by her dedicated mother before bedtime. Her imagination grew up to instill inspiration in her work with her two companies Metamorphosia Recitals and Musicanima Theatre which she co-directs with her Bermudian puppeteer partner Alexander Winfield. Latana played the roles of Suzuki/Old Suzuki in The Wedding Collective’s Finding Butterfly at Limehouse Town Hall in October 2012.
