Li Li

Sang Cio Cio San in OperaMachine’s Finding Butterfly in Oct 2012. Performed for three weeks at the site-specific Limehouse Town Hall, in a powerful updating of the story, with a chorus of refugees, migrants and asylum seekers. Li Li then played the role when the show and cast was invited to Japan to take part in the 6th Tottori International Theatre Festival in 2013.

She was awarded the Cecil Drew Oratorio, the Birmingham Conservatoire Singing, Mario Lanza and Ashleyan Opera Prizes, and two Beijing vocal competitions. Her teachers include Alison Pearce, Margaret Field, Julian Pike, Lin Sun, Jane Robinson, Cheryl Studer, and Stephen Barlow.

Starting with Chorus roles in Raymond Gubbay’s Madame Butterfly at the Royal Albert Hall, recent performances include: David Syrus Masterclass Concert, Chinese New Year Festival (Zhijiang City), G.F. Handel’s “Messiah”, Coleshill Last Night of the Proms, recitals at King’s College  and in various British historical churches and venues.

Besides her wide crossover repertoire, her opera roles  include Queen of Night, The Magic Flute; Donna Anna, Don Giovanni and Fiordiligi, Cosi Fan Tutte.  She also sang Cio Cio San for the February Park Opera production of Madame Butterfly.
